Jim Wise Demolition has begun a new project in the North East, with works now underway at Unit 10, Longbenton, Newcastle – formerly the Ruskims Cash & Carry.
Project Scope
This project involves the full demolition of the warehouse building, delivered through a carefully planned sequence of works designed to ensure safety, efficiency, and minimal disruption to surrounding businesses and road users.
The planned works include:
- Establishing a secure site with fencing, signage, and welfare facilities
- Removal of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) by UKATA-trained operatives
- Soft strip of internal fixtures, fittings, and M&E systems
- Controlled mechanical demolition using specialist 24t excavators and attachments
- On-site crushing, waste segregation, and recycling to reduce environmental impact
- Final clearance and handover of the site for redevelopment
Safety & Environmental Management
Every step of this project is being carried out in line with BS 6187:2011 (Code of Practice for Demolition) and UK legislation. Key measures include:

- Dust suppression via high-pressure water systems
- Noise and vibration monitoring to protect neighbouring properties
- Strict exclusion zones and traffic management to maintain a safe perimeter
Looking Ahead
With site set-up complete, our team is preparing for asbestos removal and soft strip works before moving into the mechanical demolition phase.
