New Demolition Project Underway – Former Ruskims Cash & Carry, Newcastle Upon Tyne

October 1, 2025

Jim Wise Demolition has begun a new project in the North East, with works now underway at Unit 10, Longbenton, Newcastle – formerly the Ruskims Cash & Carry.

Project Scope

This project involves the full demolition of the warehouse building, delivered through a carefully planned sequence of works designed to ensure safety, efficiency, and minimal disruption to surrounding businesses and road users.

The planned works include:

  • Establishing a secure site with fencing, signage, and welfare facilities
  • Removal of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) by UKATA-trained operatives
  • Soft strip of internal fixtures, fittings, and M&E systems
  • Controlled mechanical demolition using specialist 24t excavators and attachments
  • On-site crushing, waste segregation, and recycling to reduce environmental impact
  • Final clearance and handover of the site for redevelopment

Safety & Environmental Management

Every step of this project is being carried out in line with BS 6187:2011 (Code of Practice for Demolition) and UK legislation. Key measures include:

  • Dust suppression via high-pressure water systems
  • Noise and vibration monitoring to protect neighbouring properties
  • Strict exclusion zones and traffic management to maintain a safe perimeter

Looking Ahead

With site set-up complete, our team is preparing for asbestos removal and soft strip works before moving into the mechanical demolition phase.

This project demonstrates our continued ability to deliver large-scale industrial demolition works safely, responsibly, and on programme.
